This hard-hitting and emotional series from NBC’s "Law & Order" brand chronicles the life and crimes of the Special Victims Unit of the New York Police Department, the elite squad of detectives who investigate sexually based crimes.
The drama follows Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), a seasoned veteran of the unit who has seen it all, and his partner, Detective Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), whose difficult past - a child of rape - is the reason she joined the unit.
8 year-old Owen Farhidi (guest star Kaeden Ruparel) disappears from school and his mother Dana (guest star Brooke Bloom) receives a ransom request. When surveillance footage shows that Owen recognized his abductor, Detective Amaro (Danny Pino) works with Dana and her ex-husband Sam (guest star Navid Negahban) to find and arrest the suspect, but tensions between the estranged couple obstructs the investigation. Meanwhile, Sgt. Benson (Mariska Hargitay) is asked to take the Lieutenant's exam to formally take the lead over her squad.
Sgt. Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and ADA Barba (Raúl Esparza) take Johnny D (guest star Charles Halford) to trial for sex trafficking, rape, assault and kidnapping. But when Baby Noah's adoption becomes entangled in the case, Benson fears for Noah's future and his safety. In an intense courtroom showdown, the SVU will face a threat that could change the squad forever.
Benson (Mariska Hargitay) has traveled into Chicago to help Voight (Jason Beghe) and intelligence with a rape/murder case that is frighteningly similar to a case from New York a decade ago. She calls in Fin (Ice-T) and Amaro (Danny Pino) to assist. The prime suspect, Yates (Dallas Roberts) is let go after rigorous questioning. He then requests a meeting with Lindsay (Sophia Bush) and he warns of unintended consequences from what intelligence is doing.
Bayard Ellis (guest star Braugher) takes on the case of a man incarcerated for incest and rape, whose daughter Michelle (guest star Samira Wiley), the victim and star witness when she was a child, wants to recant her testimony and set her father free. When a judge refuses to reopen the 17 year old case, the SVU turns to retired Captain Cragen (guest star Florek), who remembers the investigation and provides evidence that could change the convict's fate.
Popular television host Skip Peterson (guest star Rob Morrow) airs an interview with college student Heather Manning (guest star Ally Ioannides), who claims she was gang raped in a fraternity house. While the tragic account of Heather's story brings national attention to the epidemic of rape on campus, the sensational details of the she-said, they-said case leaves Sgt. Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and ADA Barba (Raul Esparza) with several suspects and a rocky trial.
Pornographic photos from 15 year-old Savannah Biel's (guest star Hayden Tweedie) house party quickly circulate around her Tribeca high school and go viral. Barba's (Raúl Esparza) efforts to arrest the student responsible for posting the images is stalled when several suspects fall victim to a fast-moving measles outbreak. When Benson's (Mariska Hargitay) foster son also catches the illness, she investigates a group of mothers who may have falsified their children's medical records. Meanwhile, Amaro (Danny Pino) receives some distressing news about his son.
With the SVU detectives nearing the breaking point, the squad tries to finally bring the case to a close, no matter who it threatens to take down.
A report of child abuse leads to a woman with multiple personalities and a complicated murder trial.
A woman involved in virtual reality video games goes missing and her "avatar" or screen persona is at the root of the investigation.
A school counselor is killed in Central Park and her volunteer work with refugees may be the motive.
A teenage boy has sex with his teacher, and what is initially a he-said she-said case turns into an unusual defense.
SVU squad suspects a cover up when a private school teacher is attacked.
The investigation into high end prostitution rings at war has threatened to tear the SVU apart.
The recent kidnapping of a child prompts Munch to reopen an old unsolved case with similar circumstances.
A woman is sexually assaulted by a masked man.
SVU investigates an accusation that a revered high school basketball coach sexually abused his players, but they ultimately may need the cooperation of a reluctant pro superstar to make the case.
A mentally challenged girl witnesses the savage beating of her mother.
An Italian diplomat is arrested when a hotel maid accuses him of rape.
The best-selling author of a raunchy S&M novel is attacked and the squad's investigation points to a popular television talk show host.
The case of a kidnapped child quickly turns into a paternity investigation when falsified adoption and birth certificates surface showing that the kidnapper is the mentally-unstable biological mother.
